Vacuum Disc Filter Low Vacuum and Leakage Troubleshooting

Diagnose low vacuum, air leakage and unstable filtration by checking seals, piping, valves, filtrate receivers, pumps, sector connections and cloth condition.

Verify the Reading and Define the Symptom

Record where vacuum is measured, instrument condition, operating state and whether the issue is low, unstable, zone-specific or associated with receiver level and filtrate flow.

Air ingress

Leakage exceeds system capacity

Cloth tears, open sectors, seals, joints, valve wear or open drains can admit excess air.

Restriction

The flow path is blocked

Flooded receivers, restricted piping, blocked sectors or condensate can isolate the pump from the filter.

Vacuum source

Pump or control performance changed

Pump condition, seal water, speed, valves, elevation and process load affect capacity.

Safety before inspection or maintenance

Stop the equipment and isolate all hazardous energy that can cause rotation, vacuum, pressure, stored mechanical movement, electrical energization or chemical exposure. Follow the site lockout and permit procedure; inspection and maintenance must be performed only by authorized personnel.

Troubleshooting sequence

Work from Measurement to Filter and Vacuum Source

Change one controlled variable at a time and retain the before-and-after operating evidence.

1

Verify instrument

Compare an approved reference and measurement point.

2

Define pattern

Map zone, disc, operating state and timing.

3

Check receiver

Review levels, carryover and liquid removal.

4

Locate leak/restriction

Use approved isolation and inspection methods.

5

Verify source

Compare pump and system performance to the basis.

Evidence to record

Build a Trend, Not a Snapshot

Use the same instruments, sampling points and laboratory method so changes can be compared.

Use Symptom Pattern to Narrow the System

Never use hands, loose materials or unsafe sprays near rotating equipment to search for leakage.

Practical answers

Frequently Asked Questions

These answers support project preparation; the final recommendation depends on the actual duty.

Why is representative slurry data required?
Mineral names do not define filterability. Particle-size distribution, mineralogy, clay, reagents, solids and temperature can change cake formation, permeability and release. Use filterability testing when results matter commercially.
What should be sent for a preliminary review?
Provide dry-solids throughput, feed solids, particle-size data, target cake moisture, operating schedule, elevation and available utilities through the quote request.
Can BOYUN promise cake moisture from the mineral name alone?
No. A defensible target must be tied to representative feed data, test conditions, equipment scope and an agreed operating basis.

Define the Next Engineering Step

Share the feed, throughput, operating target and site constraints. BOYUN will identify missing information and recommend testing, sizing or the appropriate equipment scope.
