Start with the Feed, Product and Water Balance

Concentrate dewatering sits between beneficiation and storage, transport or downstream processing. The correct solution protects valuable solids while producing a cake that the next operation can handle consistently.

Moisture

Define a handling target

Set the target against transport, stockpiling, smelting or downstream process needs—not a generic brochure value.

Filtrate

Retain valuable fines

Cloth or ceramic media must balance throughput with acceptable solids loss and filtrate reuse.

Continuity

Match the production schedule

Size duty and installed availability around normal and peak dry-solids flow.

Selection boundary

Concentrates with excessive ultrafines, difficult cake release, unstable upstream chemistry or a demanding wash duty may require additional testing or another filtration route.

Engineering sequence

Build the Dewatering Duty Before Selecting the Machine

A defensible selection follows the material through the circuit and keeps every assumption visible.

1

Map production

Confirm normal and peak concentrate tonnage and operating hours.

2

Characterize slurry

Measure PSD, solids, density, mineralogy, pH, temperature and reagents.

3

Set outcomes

Define moisture, filtrate clarity, washing and cake handling criteria.

4

Test media

Compare appropriate cloth and ceramic media under representative conditions.

5

Size and review

Apply design margin and confirm auxiliaries, access and acceptance tests.

Inputs That Control Filterability and Sizing

The same headline tonnage can require very different filtration areas when the feed or target changes.

Mineral and gradeDescribe the concentrate and valuable-mineral retention requirement.
PSD and finesProvide full distribution when possible, not only a single P80.
Feed solidsGive normal range and upset conditions after thickening.
Cake destinationState transport, stockpile, smelter or downstream processing needs.
Filtrate destinationClarify recycle, clarification or disposal requirements.
Reagent chemistryList collectors, frothers, flocculants and pH modifiers that may affect filtration.
Equipment route

Compare the Filter Medium and System Boundary

Cloth and ceramic media solve different operating problems. Compare them with the same sample and acceptance criteria.

Frequently Asked Questions

Use these answers to prepare a useful discussion with BOYUN. Final equipment selection still depends on project data.

Why is representative slurry data required?
Mineral names do not define filterability. Particle-size distribution, mineralogy, clay, reagent chemistry, feed solids and temperature can change cake formation, permeability and release. Use the filterability test process when performance is commercially important.
What information should be sent for a preliminary review?
Provide duty, mineral, dry throughput, feed solids, particle size or P80, target moisture, operating hours, elevation and available utilities through the disc filter quote page.
Does BOYUN guarantee cake moisture from a mineral name?
No. A responsible target must be tied to representative feed data, test conditions and an agreed equipment and operating basis.

Define the Next Engineering Step

Share the slurry, dry throughput, feed solids, particle size and target cake moisture. BOYUN will identify missing data and recommend testing, sizing or a suitable filter configuration.
