Why test

A Mineral Name Is Not a Filtration Result

Two samples with the same commercial ore name can respond differently because grinding, clay, mineralogy, oxidation, reagents and solids concentration change cake structure and permeability.

Cake formation

Can the feed build a stable cake?

Observe pickup, uniformity and the effect of immersion or formation time.

Dewatering

How does moisture respond?

Measure moisture against vacuum, drying time, cake thickness and media.

Release

Will the cake discharge cleanly?

Check blowback or scraper behavior and whether the medium retains or smears solids.

Test workflow

Build a Repeatable Evidence Package

Record conditions and methods so results can support sizing and later be compared with commissioning data.

1

Plan sampling

Select normal and difficult feed conditions; document where and when the sample was taken.

2

Characterize

Record solids, density, PSD, mineralogy, pH, temperature and relevant reagents.

3

Screen media

Choose candidate cloth or ceramic media based on retention, chemistry and release.

4

Run cycles

Measure cake formation, drying, moisture, filtrate and discharge across controlled conditions.

5

Report basis

Summarize flux, recommended media, limitations and the conditions required for scale-up.

Practical answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Use these answers to prepare a useful discussion with BOYUN. Final equipment selection still depends on project data.

Why is representative slurry data required?
Mineral names do not define filterability. Particle-size distribution, mineralogy, clay, reagent chemistry, feed solids and temperature can change cake formation, permeability and release. Use the filterability test process when performance is commercially important.
What information should be sent for a preliminary review?
Provide duty, mineral, dry throughput, feed solids, particle size or P80, target moisture, operating hours, elevation and available utilities through the disc filter quote page.
Does BOYUN guarantee cake moisture from a mineral name?
No. A responsible target must be tied to representative feed data, test conditions and an agreed equipment and operating basis.

Define the Next Engineering Step

Share the slurry, dry throughput, feed solids, particle size and target cake moisture. BOYUN will identify missing data and recommend testing, sizing or a suitable filter configuration.
