BY Series Ceramic Vacuum Disc Filter for Fine Mineral Concentrates

BOYUN’s BY Series ceramic vacuum disc filter uses nano-porous ceramic plates as the filtration medium. Capillary action, vacuum-assisted filtrate removal, scraper discharge, online backwashing and ultrasonic cleaning create a continuous dewatering cycle for suitable fine mineral concentrates.

Where a Ceramic Disc Filter Creates Value

The BY Series is intended for mineral duties where fine-particle retention, clear filtrate, low cake moisture and the removal of recurring filter-cloth replacement justify ceramic-media filtration.

Cloth-free operation

Ceramic plates form the filter surface

The rigid porous plate replaces sewn cloth bags and supports scraper-based cake discharge.

Fine-particle duty

Retention matched to the concentrate

Plate pore structure can support valuable-fines retention and clear filtrate when the slurry is compatible.

Permeability control

Integrated plate cleaning

Backwashing and periodic ultrasonic cleaning help remove deposits that restrict flow through the nano-pores.

Strong candidate duties

Fine iron, copper, gold and other valuable mineral concentrates that demonstrate stable cake formation and compatible chemistry during testing.

How Ceramic Vacuum Filtration Works

The plate, vacuum path, scraper and cleaning system work as one cycle. Stable filtrate flow depends on keeping the pore structure available.

1

Plate immersion

Ceramic sectors rotate through a mixed, conditioned mineral slurry.

2

Capillary formation

Liquid enters the nano-pores while retained solids build a cake on the plate.

3

Vacuum drying

Filtrate removal continues as the cake travels through the dewatering arc.

4

Scraper discharge

Controlled scraper clearance removes cake without loading the plate surface.

5

Plate regeneration

Online backwash and periodic ultrasonic cleaning restore permeability.

Mineral concentrate applications

Evaluate Ceramic Filtration for Valuable Fine Solids

Ore type helps define the test program, but PSD, mineralogy, reagent chemistry and cake release decide whether ceramic media is appropriate.

Protect Ceramic Plate Permeability

A ceramic filter performs only when liquid can move through the plate. Cleaning strategy should be designed from scaling tendency, fine-particle deposition and slurry chemistry.

01

Online backwashing

Reverse flow helps clear deposited solids during the regular operating cycle.

02

Periodic ultrasonic cleaning

Ultrasonic energy helps release material lodged in or on the porous surface.

03

Controlled scraper clearance

Correct alignment removes cake while limiting contact load and mechanical damage.

04

Trend operating indicators

Monitor filtrate flow, vacuum, cake moisture and cleaning recovery to identify declining permeability.

Ceramic disc filter FAQ

BY Series Selection and Cleaning Questions

Practical answers for mineral-processing engineers evaluating cloth-free dewatering.

How does a ceramic vacuum disc filter work?
Nano-porous ceramic plates create capillary suction that allows liquid to pass while retaining solids on the plate surface. Vacuum supports filtrate removal, the cake dries as the disc rotates, scrapers remove the cake and backwashing plus periodic ultrasonic cleaning restore permeability.
Why does the BY Series not need filter cloth?
The ceramic plate itself is the filtration medium. Its porous surface replaces the cloth bags used on conventional vacuum disc filters. This removes cloth replacement from routine operation, but ceramic plates, scrapers, seals and cleaning systems still require inspection and maintenance.
Which mineral concentrates are suitable for ceramic disc filtration?
Fine iron, copper, gold and other mineral concentrates may be candidates when they form a permeable cake and the plate pore structure provides suitable retention. Suitability must be confirmed from mineralogy, PSD, chemistry, filtrate quality and a representative filterability test.
What cake moisture can a ceramic disc filter achieve?
Cake moisture depends on particle size, clay content, pore structure, feed solids, cake thickness, vacuum and drying time. Ceramic filtration can produce a drier cake than cloth media in suitable duties, but BOYUN should verify the actual target by test rather than promise one universal percentage.
How are ceramic filter plates cleaned?
Online backwashing removes deposited solids during normal cycles. Periodic ultrasonic cleaning helps release material from the pore structure. Cleaning frequency and any approved chemical procedure must follow the slurry chemistry and BOYUN’s operating guidance.
What can damage or blind ceramic plates?
Inadequate backwash, unsuitable cleaning chemistry, scale-forming feed, hard mechanical impact, incorrect scraper settings and operation outside the intended slurry conditions can reduce permeability or damage plates. Trend filtrate flow and vacuum to identify deterioration early.
When is a cloth-media disc filter the better choice?
A PG cloth-media vacuum disc filter may be better where the feed is coarser, cake release is difficult on ceramic media, chemistry is unsuitable for the plate or the plant prioritizes replaceable cloth and broad operating flexibility. Compare both using test data and lifecycle cost.
