Start with the Feed, Product and Water Balance

Iron ore tailings can range from readily filterable coarse material to ultrafine, clay-bearing feeds. Test the limiting campaign rather than relying on an average ore description. The engineering review connects feed preparation, filtration, filtrate handling and cake discharge to one measurable duty.

Feed

High-volume continuous duty

Record the range and variation that the filter must receive, including upset conditions.

Product

PSD and clay control permeability

Define the measurable outcome and the downstream reason it matters.

Operation

Cake handling governs the circuit

Confirm how the circuit will be started, controlled, cleaned and maintained.

Selection boundary

Iron ore tailings can range from readily filterable coarse material to ultrafine, clay-bearing feeds. Test the limiting campaign rather than relying on an average ore description.

Engineering sequence

Build the Dewatering Duty Before Selecting the Machine

A defensible selection follows the material through the circuit and keeps every assumption visible.

1

Collect feed data

Sample normal and difficult campaigns; record solids, PSD, mineralogy, pH, temperature and reagents.

2

Define acceptance

Set water-recovery, filtrate and cake-handling criteria before testing.

3

Run testwork

Measure cake formation, drying response, release and filtrate quality with candidate media.

4

Calculate area

Use tested dry-solids flux, operating hours, availability and design margin.

5

Confirm system

Review vacuum, filtrate, blowback, feed, discharge, access, controls and utilities.

Practical answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Use these answers to prepare a useful discussion with BOYUN. Final equipment selection still depends on project data.

Why is representative slurry data required?
Mineral names do not define filterability. Particle-size distribution, mineralogy, clay, reagent chemistry, feed solids and temperature can change cake formation, permeability and release. Use the filterability test process when performance is commercially important.
What information should be sent for a preliminary review?
Provide duty, mineral, dry throughput, feed solids, particle size or P80, target moisture, operating hours, elevation and available utilities through the disc filter quote page.
Does BOYUN guarantee cake moisture from a mineral name?
No. A responsible target must be tied to representative feed data, test conditions and an agreed equipment and operating basis.

Define the Next Engineering Step

Share the slurry, dry throughput, feed solids, particle size and target cake moisture. BOYUN will identify missing data and recommend testing, sizing or a suitable filter configuration.
