Define the Tailings Circuit, Not Only the Filter

Gold tailings vary with ore, grind, leach or flotation route and residual chemistry. Filtration must be assessed within the site’s environmental, water and residue-management controls.

Water

Recover a measurable filtrate stream

Define quality, storage and reuse within a documented plant water balance.

Cake

Create material the next step can handle

Link moisture and consistency to conveying, stacking or other placement.

Risk

Design for variability and upset

Include difficult feed, downtime, off-spec cake and water-management scenarios.

Application boundary

Some fine, clay-rich or low-permeability tailings will not meet capacity or handling targets under vacuum. Alternative conditioning, a different filter technology or pilot work may be required.

Variables That Control the Filtration Result

Treat these inputs as measured ranges. A single nominal value does not describe seasonal, orebody or campaign variation.

Engineering sequence

Integrate Feed Preparation, Filtration and Placement

Test the representative and limiting feeds before equipment performance is fixed.

1

Define circuit

Map thickening, conditioning, filtration, water return and cake handling.

2

Sample variability

Capture normal, difficult and upset material.

3

Test filterability

Measure flux, moisture, filtrate and release.

4

Engineer handling

Confirm surge, conveying, storage and placement interfaces.

5

Verify criteria

Commission against defined feed and measurement methods.

Equipment decision

Evaluate the Full Tailings Route

The filter cannot compensate for an undefined feed, water circuit or cake destination.

Placement

Dry-stack interface

Connect cake behavior to transport and placement.

Review dry stacking
Continue the project path

Use testing, sizing and system pages to convert the mineral duty into an auditable selection.

Practical answers

Frequently Asked Questions

These answers support project preparation; the final recommendation depends on the actual duty.

Why is representative slurry data required?
Mineral names do not define filterability. Particle-size distribution, mineralogy, clay, reagents, solids and temperature can change cake formation, permeability and release. Use filterability testing when results matter commercially.
What should be sent for a preliminary review?
Provide dry-solids throughput, feed solids, particle-size data, target cake moisture, operating schedule, elevation and available utilities through the quote request.
Can BOYUN promise cake moisture from the mineral name alone?
No. A defensible target must be tied to representative feed data, test conditions, equipment scope and an agreed operating basis.

Define the Next Engineering Step

Share the feed, throughput, operating target and site constraints. BOYUN will identify missing information and recommend testing, sizing or the appropriate equipment scope.
