Design Around Material, Water and Energy Flows

The disc filter is one element in a dewatering area. Stable operation depends on feed conditioning, vacuum generation, filtrate separation, cake removal, utilities and control interfaces.

Upstream

Feed preparation and delivery

Define thickener or tank behavior, agitation, density control, pumping and bypass.

Core

Filter and vacuum zones

Match area, media, disc speed, valves, receivers and vacuum package to tested duty.

Downstream

Filtrate and cake handling

Route filtrate, wash water and cake to defined storage, reuse and conveying systems.

BOYUN supply boundary

The proposal and contract should list each included item, excluded item, battery limit, utility connection, data deliverable and site responsibility. No generic page can replace the project-specific scope table.

Engineering inputs

Freeze Interfaces Before Detailed Design

Use an interface register so process, mechanical, civil, electrical, instrumentation and control decisions remain aligned.

Process design basisFeed range, dry duty, product criteria and test report.
Plot and accessCoordinates, elevations, maintenance envelope and lifting route.
PipingFeed, filtrate, vacuum, air, wash, drain and overflow connections.
UtilitiesElectrical supply, water, compressed air and environmental conditions.
ControlsOperating modes, interlocks, permissives, alarms and plant communication.
DocumentationDrawings, data sheets, lists, manuals, inspection and acceptance records.
Project workflow

Progress from Duty to Commissioning

Each stage should close its inputs and approvals before the next release.

1

Design basis

Approve feed, capacity, targets and standards.

2

Test and size

Select media, area, cycle and vacuum basis.

3

Define scope

Issue equipment, battery limits and responsibility matrix.

4

Coordinate interfaces

Review layout, piping, power, controls and access.

5

Verify start-up

Commission against agreed feed and test methods.

Deliverable control

What to Define in the Project Document List

Availability and timing depend on the contract, project phase and agreed engineering scope.

Practical answers

Frequently Asked Questions

These answers support project preparation; the final recommendation depends on the actual duty.

Why is representative slurry data required?
Mineral names do not define filterability. Particle-size distribution, mineralogy, clay, reagents, solids and temperature can change cake formation, permeability and release. Use filterability testing when results matter commercially.
What should be sent for a preliminary review?
Provide dry-solids throughput, feed solids, particle-size data, target cake moisture, operating schedule, elevation and available utilities through the quote request.
Can BOYUN promise cake moisture from the mineral name alone?
No. A defensible target must be tied to representative feed data, test conditions, equipment scope and an agreed operating basis.

Define the Next Engineering Step

Share the feed, throughput, operating target and site constraints. BOYUN will identify missing information and recommend testing, sizing or the appropriate equipment scope.
