Cleaning basis

Identify the Deposit Before Increasing Cleaning Intensity

Loss of permeability can come from fine-particle penetration, mineral scale, process reagent film, incomplete backwash, blocked channels or physical plate damage.

Routine

Backwash and operating cleaning

Verify clean-water quality, pressure or flow, valve timing and distribution against the equipment instructions.

Periodic

Ultrasonic cleaning

Check equipment function, coverage and cycle condition using the controlled BOYUN procedure.

Regeneration

Chemical treatment when approved

Select chemistry only after deposit, plate and site compatibility review.

Chemical safety and accuracy

This page intentionally does not publish a universal chemical, concentration, temperature or duration. Use the current BOYUN instruction for the identified plate and deposit, the chemical supplier SDS and the site’s risk assessment, permit, PPE, ventilation, containment, neutralization and disposal requirements.

Condition evidence

Separate Fouling from Damage or Flow-Path Faults

Cleaning will not repair a cracked plate, failed connector, blocked internal passage or incorrect valve sequence.

Controlled workflow

Escalate Cleaning Only with Evidence

Record the response after each approved step so the effective method is known.

1

Confirm trend

Verify measurement, feed and cycle baseline.

2

Inspect system

Check valve, backwash, channels and plate integrity.

3

Identify deposit

Use process history and analysis where needed.

4

Apply approved method

Follow the controlled operating and safety instruction.

5

Verify and record

Compare permeability and filtration performance.

Clean or replace

Know When Regeneration Is Not the Answer

Remove damaged or unsafe plates from service and investigate why the damage occurred.

ObservationLikely decisionRequired review
Performance recovers after routine backwashContinue controlled routine cleaning.Confirm frequency, water quality and trend.
Performance responds only to periodic cleaningOptimize the approved periodic schedule.Identify deposit source and avoid over-cleaning.
No response despite correct flow and methodInvestigate internal blockage or incompatible deposit.Technical review before stronger chemistry.
Crack, chip, seal damage or leakageRemove/replace according to equipment procedure.Check scraper clearance, handling and installation.
Repeated short lifeTreat as a system problem.Review feed, chemistry, cleaning, mechanics and plate selection.

Safety before inspection or maintenance

Stop the equipment and isolate all hazardous energy that can cause rotation, vacuum, pressure, stored mechanical movement, electrical energization or chemical exposure. Follow the site lockout and permit procedure; inspection and maintenance must be performed only by authorized personnel.

Practical answers

Frequently Asked Questions

These answers support project preparation; the final recommendation depends on the actual duty.

Why is representative slurry data required?
Mineral names do not define filterability. Particle-size distribution, mineralogy, clay, reagents, solids and temperature can change cake formation, permeability and release. Use filterability testing when results matter commercially.
What should be sent for a preliminary review?
Provide dry-solids throughput, feed solids, particle-size data, target cake moisture, operating schedule, elevation and available utilities through the quote request.
Can BOYUN promise cake moisture from the mineral name alone?
No. A defensible target must be tied to representative feed data, test conditions, equipment scope and an agreed operating basis.

Define the Next Engineering Step

Share the feed, throughput, operating target and site constraints. BOYUN will identify missing information and recommend testing, sizing or the appropriate equipment scope.
